HAPPEN MAGAZINE #11 (50pages/B5 size) FreeI’ve got this magazine trade with a friend from Indonesia Skateboard Association at the recent Asian X Games in Korea. Its kinda mini magazine style, thick colored cover, good quality papers, most of the contents layout were in grayscale except for some ads. Cover also mentioning bout their 1st anniversary. So I guess they had been around for a year and this one was their 11th issue. The text was mostly in Indonesian and some mixture of broken English. Inside you will find the usual readers letter section, an interviews with local skaters; Ryan Novianus (which had been sponsored by Volcom Indonesia and awarded by the Surf Time Magazine as the best skateboarder 2005), and a short band interview with The Bikinie’s (an all girl band playing Swedish pop style). Some articles and good one’s like “For what reason do we skate?†(Worth to have this kind of topic to discuss for); tips on photography and others. Since they were celebrating their 1st anniversary, they even took the chances to included couple pages of viewing their own office, few snaps of their staff pic, plus showing the equipment they were using for the mag. I’m surprised that they had a large numbers of skaters doing these 50 pages of magazine. They could have done much better and maybe extended more pages. Indonesia is big and they can get many contributors from each state or city to make a real good Indonesian mag. But what will you expect from a free Indonesian skateboard magazine? Take it or leave it… Happenmag@yahoo.com

SURF TIME - volume 6 (100pg) RP20,000 Received this mag sumtime last year. Have any of you heard of this mag? Well, this magazine is a monthly Surf/skate/style mag originally from Kuta Bali. Concerntrate more on surfing offcourse. The quality is much more better than any of our local skateboard mag. The layout are nice and clean. I wish they could run a branch in Malaysia (haha...). Ok let's go straight into the inside. The mag comes together with a Quiksilver "Young Guns 2" surfing DVD (not a promo but full verion of DVD). As usual, they have the readers letter section, news of upcoming events and stuff; 1 page cartoon; the usual gig and concert review; music reviews; band reviews (guess who? It's our local ska heroes Gerhana Ska Cinta), shop review, product info and fashion (sumthing that you usually see in Revo mag); skate contest report and review (have Riyaz pic here doin kickflip during Kuta Bali), Bmx contest (ada gambar Mat Dagu), skate video review, skate spot review, interview with Arya who is a 15 years old Indonesian Volcom sponsor riders; a bunch of skate photos but surfing more offcourse. Plus plenty of surfing competition news and articles such as; Lembongan Surf team Contest; Volcom stone's Flyingfish Surf Series; Rip Curl PadangPadang Cup; Quiksilver Open 2005; and many many more, bikini model Interview with 25 years old Miss Reef "Komang Beth"; Surfers Interview with Sophie Shelton; Made Lana (a guy not female); Norimasa Ohno (japan); articles from Kelly Slater's Bali Holiday trip. Plus articles on the surfing shooting for Quiksliver Young Guns 2 boys, a Volcom pull out poster of Dollin, Rowley and Appleyard (in one poster); article on Mentawai surfing experience (they have 2 same articles which one is written in English and another in Indonesian). This mag is 70% in English and 30% in Indonesian. You will find some surf reports in Indonesian and some in English. But overall, this mag is definately a good one. Should try to market them here just like the Indonesian bike magazine that we had here. Contact them: info@surf-time.com

3X #12 (68 pages) RM5.50This would be the first review of 3X in skatemalaysia. I have been collecting this mag since the pilot project issue and i have never missed an issue yet. They have been improving from every issue to another and i hope this mag stay pure and stay as long as the can in the scene. Holding with me now is the 12th issue of March 2006 release with a nice front cover of Fuad Saifullah from HUYO skateboards doing a backside lipslide. The inside - Concerntrate more on skateboarding (well you know how 3X concept right?) and they did interview with cover skaters Fuad (plus a big pull out poster of Fuad and Boy JB at the other side), Man Extra from Johor, Zaire (in-line), and Atik (Bmx). As usual, the readers mailing section, tons contest reports, trick tips, etc. A bunch of Kecik Kepong poster as well. A good article from Pa'Din on making your neighborhood become a skatebale place (very DIY), a whole bunch of pics, more pics and more pics inside. Plus "the Truth" article of the media and The Police for the blindly attack of the independent hardcore punk scene for being "Black Metal" by Ian. A good article from both. The mag needs more contents on articles concerning the local scene rather than bunch of interviews or perhaps they could extent more pages in the future. Well this is what i think...but personal, 3X did a great work for th elocal scene. Well, If you need to know more what's inside the mag. Go buy it now. Don't borrow them. it's not worth it. Buy it and keep it and read it again another day...Support your local scene yall... ***3X is the leading extreme sports mag in Malaysia
