lol. the dude didn't get the joke. sawadi khaa to you...
I've watched a vid on learning how to speak Thai with my cousin since she's going to Bangkok, (she's already there now) and there were 3 types of ways to say hello.
If you are a man, you say 'sawadikap' If you are a woman, you say 'sawadikhaa' Then there's the 3RD GENDER, you say 'sawadi kap/khaa', you choose I guess. WOW. There there's 5 types of tones! For the word 'mai' - you use the rising tone if you want to ask a question, for example 'lot ra khaa dai mai?' means 'can you lower the price?', in other tones 'mai' also means 'silk', 'new', etc. Bahasa Melayu never has tone changes! It's only that, if one word means more than one meaning like the word 'jalan' means road and also the action of walking! Now, in Thai, if you speak in a certain TONE, it means SOMETHING ELSE! wah penat dah aku cerita..

lol. yeah. my cousin said if there's tone changes then we can't really tell how the person is feeling? like if someone wants to use the rising tone, but is feeling sad or angy. can u actually tell? wah asyik pasal thai jek.

lol.i prolly wont b able to tell. im kinda dumb with listening to these emotional cues n tones, even if ppl speak english or malay. im hopeless like that, y'know? if ppl talk to me they gotta straight up say what they mean or i wont get it. lol. i guess if i ever go to thailand i gotta bring me lotsa notepads n sharpies n just write down whatever i wanna say but i guess thai language do use lotsa tonal changes. when they speak it sounds like..err..musical?
